Make Up Monday: Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer Light

Today's Make Up Monday comes from part of my birthday haul. I have been using Smashbox's Photo Finish foundation primer (in Light) because my foundation kept going on extremely clumpy and powdery no matter what I did.

I tried using liquid first then powder and I hated how it felt heavy. I don't like to wear a lot of product. I actually very rarely put foundation on but for special occasions I will. So I have been wanting to try the photo finish primer for some time. The associate at Sephora named Jennifer recommended for oily skin that I get the photo finish in light rather than the regular photo finish or the one with SPF in it because this one is oil free and would not clog my pores. So I tried it.

At first I was not too impressed. My skin felt oily at first and then at the end of the day my make up didn't look as fresh as I would have liked it but you couldn't tell I was wearing foundation! So I tried it again but used less. Two teeny dobs that I spread around rather than one on my chin, nose, cheeks and forehead. LESS IS MORE! I also didn't put it on on top of my moisturizer like I had the day before and that helped tremendously

They have several different types of the foundation primer to coordinate with your skin and with your purpose but I have definitely noticed a difference and will be adding this to my "reorder" shopping list. I also tried Tarina Tarantino all over primer and did not like it. It had a pearl tint to it that I didn't like and it was super oily and make my make up clump into lines.

What type of foundation primer do you use? Or do you even use primer?

  1. I cant find a foundation primer that works for me. The one I had previously used was CoverGirl (i think) an it made my foundation blotchy & my face looked more oily then w/out primer!!

  2. What ones have you tried? As you can see Smashbox has several different types and you need to make sure you find one that works for your purpose and works with your skin.

For example, mine is SUPER oily. So I cleanse and then moisturize at night. In the morning I cleanse and then put on primer if I plan to wear foundation. If I don't, I just moisturize. Then later on if I decide to wear make up where I need the extra longevity then I will cleanse and use primer.

The other thing is not to use too much. You really only need a tiny moisture bead. Less then a dime and dab it gently on both cheeks, chin, tip of nose and between your eyes. Then like lotion smooth it out and into your skin. Continue to massage it in until it's COMPLETELY gone. Otherwise your foundation will become blotchy.

  3. I used one I got from Avon, it worked but I had a reaction to it.. Boooo. :( I have tried one from Covergirl as well, and that one made my face all blotchy and oily looking. I have such sensative skin that its hard to find anything for my face that doesn't cause me to break out. lol

  4. I'm not a big fan of Avon's products. I've used some that have worked for me and some that haven't. I do believe smashbox has a hypoallergenic one.

Do you know what you are allergic to? That might help with finding a primer that works. You could also use setting spray instead of primer to keep your make up looking fresh.
